Your fragrance palette starts with 10 notes
The perfumer's organ is like a box of voices. Each bottle is a character, a mood, a story.
At the start, you don't need to have dozens of oils. 10 basic ones are enough to start composing your own fragrances and feeling the composition .
Essential oils for a beginner perfumer:
Top notes:
Bergamot - fresh, light, subtle citrus
Grapefruit or lemon - brightness, awakening
Lavender is versatile, binds compositions, smells of cleanliness
Middle notes:
Damask rose - a gentle classic
Jasmine - warm, enveloping
Geranium or Ylang-Ylang - Floral Softness
Base notes:
Sandalwood - soft wood, warm trace
Patchouli - damp earth, depth
Vanilla - sweetness, comfort, sillage
Amber or vetiver - durability, warmth of the skin
How to build your own mini organ:
☐ Label each oil☐ Arrange them by “notes”: top notes on the left, heart notes in the center, base notes on the right☐ Get a small tray or wooden stand☐ Put a notebook nearby – ideas will come unexpectedly
A little inspiration:
Start with a game: choose 1 note from each group and create an imaginary scent. For example: Bergamot + rose + sandalwood is about a quiet morning with a letter and a blanket. Lemon + geranium + vanilla is the scent of purity and warm bakery light.
📍 In the next post:🌹 How to come up with your first perfume recipe I'll show you how proportions make a scent: how many drops of what, how to experiment, and how to tell "a lot" from "exactly."
